One of the most important areas that domestic cleaners focus is the kitchen. The refrigerator is a great place to start when you want your kitchen to be clean and free of harmful germs and bugs.
If it has been a while since you last cleaned out your refrigerator, a good way to start is by emptying out all of the leftovers, condiments, foods, and beverages. You will likely be surprised at what you find. You probably had forgotten about last month’s bread pudding that had somehow been pushed to the back, or that leftover salad you made for your sister’s birthday party. Start disposing of foods that have surely gone bad by putting them in the garbage disposal or the trash can. As a general rule, leftovers – especially cooked meats – are safe to consume for about four days if they are left in a refrigerator that maintains a safe temperature.
If you use the garbage disposal, you may need to use some odor elimination techniques when you are finished. If you decide to throw the old foods away in the kitchen garbage, make sure to close the bag when you are finished and take it outside as soon as possible so the smell doesn’t start to waft through the house. Put all of the containers you have just emptied directly into the dishwasher and run it immediately. If you don’t have a dishwasher, wash them thoroughly by hand.
After discarding leftover food, it is time to clean the refrigerator. If you have a cleaner that you prefer, you may use that. A mix of baking soda and water or a mixture that is half vinegar and half water will also do the trick. Although it may seem strange, many domestic cleaners use vinegar as a cleaning agent because it is a natural deodoriser and mild disinfectant. Make sure to rinse the inside of your refrigerator before returning the food.
When you put food and beverages back into the refrigerator, you may want to include an open box of baking soda. By doing the domestic cleaning and cleaning your refrigerator often and completely, you can become a more effective domestic cleaner.
